Community Building: Advancing social opportunities
Building in your community should not stop with the construction.
Your association is chartered to hold ownership of your common elements and to provide for their maintenance and replacement. It’s budget is directed for that purpose.
Your community, however, is built of people who provide a social context for your neighborhood. Some of the most successfully managed communities attribute their achievements to a thriving calendar of events, projects and programs that are supported by the families who reside there.
Flagler Coastal can help you communicate your social calendar to the residents and make sure that your social events meet all the requirements of your community documents. If authorized by your board, we can schedule classes on topics of interest, bring in guest speakers, and arrange for regular “community building” programs including events for seniors, singles, kids and families.
Whether you live in a condominium, cooperative or managed community with a homeowner’s association, you will enjoy more of what your community has to offer if there are a variety of events in which groups and individuals may participate.
We suggest a break between association “business” meetings and community building events. Try holding neighborhood picnics and other outdoor activities as a way to get to know your neighbors. If you have a community center, Flagler Coastal can help arrange approval for it’s use to hold social events like a book club, movie night, or other monthly “get together” for residents.
Team projects and friendly competition between neighborhood groups can benefit the entire community. Ideas include a contest for “most improved appearance” that might judge the residence or building that has found the most attractive use of plants and flowers.
Encourage social events that help instill a sense of pride and accomplishment and you will be well on your way to building friendships in your community that can last a lifetime.
